Steam, ice or no heat?
Heat Pump Repair and Replacement in Stone Mountain
Heat pumps work in every season, so they wear differently. A tech tests both modes, separates normal quirks from real faults and fixes what is actually broken.
Is Your Heat Pump Broken, or Just Defrosting?
Heat pumps relocate warmth instead of generating it. In cooling mode it works like any central air conditioner, and in heating mode a valve flips the refrigerant's direction so the outdoor coil gathers heat from the air and brings it inside. Since it runs through summer and winter, a heat pump logs far more running time than a summer-only AC, and that mileage shows up in capacitors, contactors, fan motors, reversing valves, defrost controls and sensors. It also does things that alarm new owners. On a cold, wet morning the outdoor fan may stop and the unit may hiss and send up a plume of steam for a few minutes. That is defrost, and it is normal. During a hard freeze the system may lean on electric backup strips, or in a dual-fuel setup let a gas furnace take over, and that is by design too. Signs of a real problem include a coil that stays packed with ice, backup heat running all the time, cool air in heating mode, a unit stuck in one mode or a loud reversing valve. We test the system in heating and in cooling, find the failed part and price the repair before starting. When an older heat pump is worn through, we size and install a replacement with the same care.
What Heat Pump Problems Do We Take On?
Repairs and replacements for heat pumps and hybrid systems.
Both-mode testing
Cooling and heating checked on every call, since a unit can pass one and fail the other.
Defrost faults
Defrost boards, sensors and timing checked when ice builds and never clears.
Reversing valve trouble
Diagnosed when the system blows cool in heat mode or will not change over.
Backup heat strips
Strips and controls tested, and the reason for constant backup use tracked down.
Dual-fuel controls
The outdoor temperature at which the furnace takes over confirmed so the two never fight.
Replacement and new installs
Fresh equipment sized by load, mated to a compatible air handler and run in both modes before the tech packs up.
How Is a Heat Pump Diagnosed?
Tell us both seasons
How does it heat? How does it cool? Any ice or odd noises outside?
Test, then quote
Both modes get tested, the failure is pinned down, and you hear the cost of each option.
Repair and run both ways
Once repaired, it is cycled through heat and cool so neither season brings a surprise.
Why Trust Us With a Heat Pump?
We know what defrost looks like
You will not pay to fix behavior that is normal.
Backup heat gets questioned
Strips running nonstop push bills up, so we find out why.
Careful in the house
Air handler closets and attics are left clean when we finish.
- Heating and cooling tested
- Defrost sorted out
- Dual-fuel experience
- Price set first
